Philadelphia Attorney Tiffany Palmer Named Director of the LGBT Family Law Institute

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National LGBT Bar Association (LGBT Bar) – the country’s largest organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and allied legal professionals – and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) - a national legal organization committed to advancing LGBT rights trough litigation, policy and public education - announce the appointment of Tiffany Palmer as Director of the LGBT Family Law Institute (FLI).

The LGBT Family Law Institute, a joint venture of the LGBT Bar and the National Center for Lesbian Rights, provides the opportunity for LGBT family law practitioners to share collective wisdom and to discuss cutting-edge legal strategies for representing members of the LGBT community. The Family Law Institute was founded in 2009 and meets every year at the LGBT Bar’s Annual Conference & Career Fair, Lavender Law. The LGBT Family Law Institute gives participants an opportunity to network with lawyers from other states in order to build a cadre of family law practitioners throughout the country.

“The Family Law Institute is a hallmark of the LGBT Bar,” said D’Arcy Kemnitz, executive director of the LGBT Bar. “Our group was founded by family law practitioners following the 1987 March on Washington and they continue to be the heart of our organization. Tiffany is a bright and dedicated attorney and I have no doubt that FLI will continue to flourish under her reign.”

“The LGBT Family Law Institute has been a vital part of the advancement of the legal rights of LGBT families,” said Cathy Sakimura, family law director at the National Center for Lesbian Rights. “We are privileged to have Tiffany Palmer’s leadership and expertise in this time when the rights of so many in our communities are under attack.”

Tiffany L. Palmer is a partner and founding member of Jerner & Palmer, P.C. whose practice is focused on family formation and dissolution for LGBTQ families, as well as assisted reproductive technology law. She is a graduate of Rutgers Law School. Tiffany is also a fellow to the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys and a member of the National Center for Lesbian Rights Family Law Advisory Council. In 2014, Tiffany received Rutgers Law School’s Mary Philbrook Public Interest Award for her case work and pro bono service on behalf of advancing the rights of LGBT families in Pennsylvania. In 2011, Tiffany was named one of the nation’s “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40” by the National LGBT Bar Association. She began her legal career Family Rights Project Attorney through an Equal Justice Works National Fellowship at Equality Pennsylvania/Center for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
