National LGBT Bar Association and Foundation Announces New Board Members

Washington, DC – The National LGBT Bar Association and Foundation, the country’s largest organizations of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied legal professionals, announces the appointment of three new board members.

“For over thirty years, The LGBT Bar has made it our goal to gather the best and brightest legal minds in the country, and our new board members are a reflection of this commitment to excellence,” said the organization’s Executive Director, D’Arcy Kemnitz. “As we move forward in this current global pandemic, The LGBT Bar’s work toward advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion is more important than ever so we don't face the same cuts as we did in the economic fallout in 2008. The diverse backgrounds and expertise of our newly appointed board members will help to further an atmosphere of inclusiveness while also building cutting-edge legal strategies in order to provide our profession with the best opportunities available.”

The three new members named today are:

Rachel Goldberg, At-Large: Rachel Goldberg maintains a private law practice that is focused on real estate development. She is a James W. Cooper Life Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation and served on the Connecticut Law Tribune’s Editorial Board from 2013 through 2019. Attorney Goldberg worked to secure passage of “An Act Concerning Discrimination” (PA 11-55) which prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression; “An Act Concerning Birth Certificate Amendments” (PA 15-132) which modernized Connecticut’s standard for allowing transgender and intersex people to correct the gender designation on their birth certificates and other state laws, regulations and procedures to protect the rights of Transpeople in Connecticut.

"With the new roll out of Dru Levasseur's Lavender Law 365® inclusion coaching and consulting program, I am proud to join in his efforts as a new member of the Board of Directors. I will join Dru to face this health crisis and resulting employment crisis head on."

Mike Jackson, At-Large: Mike Jackson is Assistant General Counsel/Senior Director for Microsoft’s Global Workplace Investigations Team (WIT).  As a member of the WIT leadership team, Mike leads a team of seven ethics and compliance attorneys responsible for conducting complex workplace investigations for the U.S. and Canada (retail).  Mike also leads WIT’s data governance team.  Prior to Microsoft, Mike was Director, Employee Relations Counsel at Target Corporation where he led the employment team for Target’s Central US region.  Before Target, Mike led an Employee Relations and Labor Relations team for all of Smucker’s U.S. manufacturing facilities.  Prior to Smucker, Mike was global employment counsel at McDonald’s Corporation.  Mike was recognized by the LGBT Bar as one of its 2019 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers under 40, and he was also recognized as an LCLD Fellow in 2019.   Mike lives in Seattle, WA with his husband, Chad.

"After attending Lavender Law® last year, the largest gathering of LGBTQ+ legal professionals, I am thrilled to be attending this year — as a new member of the board! Whether gathering in person - or virtually - it is the best chance to make new connections and see old friends."

Nona Lee, At-Large: Nona Lee is Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Before dedicating her time solely to the D-backs, she served as Associate General Counsel and VP and Associate General Counsel for the Phoenix Suns, D-backs, Phoenix Mercury, Arizona Rattlers, Chase Field, US Airways Center and Dodge Theater. Lee is active in the community and in the sports industry, currently serving on the board of directors and as Immediate Past-President of the Sports Lawyers Association. In addition, Lee is an Arbitrator on the American Arbitration Association’s Sports Law and Commercial Business Panels. Lee also currently serves as a member the Board for Arizona State University’s Sports Law & Business Program, a member of the Board of Advisors of the National Sports Law Institute, and an Advisory Board Member for the Arizona Chapter of Women in Sports and Events. She is also the founder of the Phoenix Women’s Sports Association.

"It is an exciting time to join the Board of Directors. The need for the LGBT Bar Association continues to grow in these turbulent times. As a new member of the Board of Directors, I am happy to help deliver programs that move forward diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession."

“Our membership is full of incredibly talented and accomplished attorneys, and we are delighted to elect three equally impressive such individuals to the board of the National LGBT Bar Association. Rachel, Nona, and Mike have demonstrated their commitment to LGBTQ+ issues throughout their careers.  Their skills and experiences will ensure our organization continues to help our LGBTQ+ legal community flourish as we move into the future, despite the challenges our profession faces today,” said the Association’s Board of Directors President, Wesley Bizzell.
