On May 31, 2012, the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional. This is just the latest victory against the 1996 law forbidding the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages.  Mary Bonauto, Civil Rights Project Director for GLAD, Maura Healeychief attorney for the Civil Rights Division at the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General, and Bill Eskridge, John A.
