The LGBT Bar Continues to Take Action: Get Involved Today!
As we face an uncertain future, the LGBT Bar remains focused on informing and protecting our community through the legal system.
We will continue to host educational programming on legal issues, to share the latest developments in the law, and to advocate on behalf of the LGBT community for equality and justice in the legal system. Your support, by becoming a new member, renewing your membership, or donating to The Bar will allow us to continue our important policy and educational work.
Here's just a bit of what we've been up to this week:
We signed onto an amicus brief with Lambda Legal for the case Berthiaume v. Smith et al, arguing that potential jurors cannot be stricken for their real or perceived sexual orientation. The LGBT Bar has long focused on equality in the jury selection process and access to a trial of their peers for LGBT defendants. This brief further calls to attention the need for uniformity in our legal system, which is why we also continue to press for the federal Jury ACCESS and Juror Non-Discrimination Acts. On Tuesday, we hosted a call-in on the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). In light of the drastic change in leadership and the continual threats to defund agencies by the Trump administration, our speakers discussed the importance of the APA and what activists can do to take charge. To listen to this call-in, and the many others we host, click here.
Thank you for your support!
